About Tom
Tom has been involved in media since he began college doing his BTEC Creative Media course in 2012. Two years later, he continued his journey at the University of Lincoln doing a Bachelors degree course in Media Production. 2017 saw him graduate with a First-Class Honours and immediately was eligible to do a Masters in Sports Journalism full-time for a year. Following the success of his BRM radio documentary of Graham Hill’s championship winning Formula 1 season in 1962, Tom came away with a Distinction and finished his 20 years of education in style.
Since then, he’s been on the hunt for jobs within the media world, landing writing roles for The Checkered Flag, Downforce Radio and Motorsport Week before finally landing his first major job as a contractor Logger and Researcher at Formula 1 prior to the start of the 2022 season. Alongside working at F1’s Media and Technology Centre in Biggin Hill during race weekends, Tom commentates on many virtual motorsport championships for Downforce Radio, XL5 Media and JPBroadcasting. His short-term aim is to find presenting and commentary gigs that involve real-life racing including karting, junior single-seaters and club-car racing.
Podcasting is another activity that Tom finds himself regularly involved in. Whilst he recently joined the Global Sports Podcast Network within the Manchester United group of fans talking about his lifelong-supporting club, 2025 also marked the launch of his new podcast series ‘Cairns Catches Up’. The series includes guests from the motorsport world to talk about their careers, the challenges they have had to overcome and perhaps offer some words to advise on young hopefuls wanting to work within motorsport.
